The Duval Crawl

Nothing good ever comes of a day without a list. It’s like a ship without a rudder. - Debbie Rosselle

We had planned to fish Saturday but the fabulous weather they predicted didn’t actually materialize and the flags were standing straight out in the 14 knot winds.

We made breakfast and took the cats outside until Gaffer jumped off and then we all had to come inside. Debbie suggested we take the time to practice our cat make up for the regatta. I had envisioned being inebriated for the face painting but it was hard enough to do sober. I laughed so hard at Debbie’s Picasso Cat paint job that I failed to get a photo.

Finally, we couldn’t take the boredom any more so we jumped on the free shuttle into town. That’s when things start getting fuzzy.

We set a goal to visit three bars we had yet to patronize. First stop was The Green Parrot but we weren’t feeling the vibe. So we went across the street to a place called The Bearded Lady. Now THAT place had the right vibe and two hazy beers on tap. Then a group of six came in and we suddenly had new friends.

This chick looked like Pink so we got our picture with her.

We vowed to meet up later with our new friends and we headed farther down Duval. Next stop: Old Town Tavern. Nice folks, decent beer and we were off to our final stop - The Chartroom. The only problem was that we had a half hour to kill before it opened at 5 pm. So we went to Lagerhead’s Beach Bar and enjoyed yet another delicious brew. The diet’s going well.

The Chartroom is a locals hangout so the bartender was a bit of a dick since he didn’t recognize us. But the mood improved dramatically when our new friends arrived. By then we were in desperate need of food so we said our farewells and stumbled toward The Boat House. En route we ran into a Whaler owners event and got to hug some of my former colleagues!

From that point on, we have to refer to receipts and evidence to pinpoint what happened next. We ate and we did pay the bill and we caught the shuttle because we woke up on the boat… with headaches and very little money left! Good thing we’re only staying a month!
